(ANGOLA) - A months-long investigation into more than $44,000 in missing Steuben County Parks money has led to four felony charges against the woman who helped oversee the park and its event center.

(Former Steuben County Parks Assistant Superintendent and Event Center Coordinator Sara Brook Smith was charged Monday in Steuben Superior Court. She faces theft, counterfeiting, obstruction of justice and official misconduct charges. Swick Broadcasting first broke the story in April that state auditors found more than $44,000 never made its way into county accounts. The missing money came from across park operations. Auditors traced it to campground fees, dock rentals, electric charges, Event Center bookings, Lions Building rentals and security deposits).

Judge William Fee issued an arrest warrant and set bond at $5,000 for Smith on Monday.

Smith's attorney has asked the court to recall the warrant, waive her initial hearing and schedule a pretrial conference.
