(CENTREVILLE) – Voters in St. Joseph County approved a millage request to improve Career And Technical Education opportunities.
On Tuesday the proposal was approved with 3889 YES votes to 2651 NO votes. The proposal, which was presented by the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District, was asking for one mill for a ten year period to help fund the CTE programs at all schools in St. Joseph County, along with the ISD. It is estimated the millage will raise $2.3 million in the first year.
St. Joseph County ISD Superintendent Dr. Teresa Belote says she is overwhelmed by the response of the voters to help kids both now and in the future by passing this proposal. LINKC.
Belote says she has heard from students that CTE classes are desperately needed because not every high school student wants to go to college. LINKD.
Belote says the next step will be for the CTE Consortium to talk about what kinds of classes need to be added, based on community needs and by the interest of students.
