(STURGIS) – Some not so flattering information was shared to the Sturgis Board of Education during their Monday afternoon meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert informed the Board that recent data showed a large percentage of Sturgis High School students were not doing well academically. LINKC.
There are currently 1,086 total classes being failed. Last year there
were 684 at this point in the school year.
In addition, 123 of the 533 online students, which is 23.1 percent are on some sort of a truancy watch list because of a lack of progress or lack of participation. Ebert says this is happening even though school staff is striving to reach out and engage students by phone calls and personal visits.
Ebert says this is not just a problem for Sturgis Schools. Several districts around the State are seeing the same kind of issues and working to correct them.
