(STURGIS) – It was a strange end to the school day Monday for students and staff at Wenzel School
The Sturgis Department of Public Safety was called to Wenzel School at 3:20 PM on a report of smoke in the building. Responding crews discovered light smoke in the hallways and moderate smoke isolated to a single classroom.
School staff evacuated the building prior to Public Safety arrival, accounted for all students, and started the school dismissal process.
School officials say an HVAC unit inside the classroom malfunctioned. It has been removed from service and no damage was reported to the building.
