(INDIANAPOLIS) – Another warm temperature day is forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Because of that, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management has issued an Air Quality Action Day, and are forecasting high ozone levels. Two counties in the area are included in that, Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties.
IDEM encourages everyone to help reduce ozone while remaining safe during the COVID-19 health crisis by making changes to daily habits. Some of the steps you can take are driving less; carpooling; using public transportation; walking, biking or working from home when possible; combining errands into one trip; avoid refueling your vehicle or using gas powered lawn equipment until after 7 PM; keeping your engine tuned, and never let your engine idle; and conserve energy by turning off lights and setting the thermostat to 75 degrees or above.
Air Quality Action Days are in effect from midnight until 11:59 PM on the specified day. Anyone sensitive to changes in air quality may be affected when ozone levels are high. Children, the elderly and anyone with heart or lung conditions should reduce or avoid exertion and heavy work outdoors.
