(CALVIN TOWNSHIP) – A Vandalia man was injured in a one vehicle crash.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department says 31 year old Michael DeWeerd was driving north on Day Lake Street near the intersection of Paradise Cove in Calvin Township just before 1 AM Monday. His vehicle went off the roadway and struck a large tree.
DeWeerd sustained severe injuries and was flown to South Bend Memrial Hospital by Med Flight.
Deputies say DeWeerd was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the
crash, which is still under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Cass Central and Penn Township Fire Departments and Pride Care EMS.
