(PORTAGE) – 90 new manufacturing and professional services jobs are being created in Southwest Michigan.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced Tuesday two projects in Southwest Michigan that will create the jobs in Portage and Decatur and will also provide additional housing in Kalamazoo. The projects have been approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund.
Whitmer announced the Midwest Fastener is investing $10.8 million to expand their headquarters in Portage, and grow their facility in Decatur. Founded in 1966, Midwest Fastener Corporation is a leading manufacturer and distributor of nuts, bolts, anchors, deck and drywall screws along with specialty fasteners. They recently purchased a business in Northfield, Ohio, which created the need to expand their office space and distribution operations.
To secure their own $10.8 million investment, Midwest Fastener has been awarded a $500,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. In addition, the City of Portage has offered a 50 percent property tax abatement in support of this project.
The 90 jobs that will be created represent a mix spanning across positions for both headquarter operations as well as skilled and unskilled laborers for its warehouse and distribution center.
