(COLDWATER) – Charges have been filed against a Coldwater man, including several for resisting Michigan State Police.
Branch County District Court officials say 49 year old Brett Donley was officially charged with assault by strangulation, after allegedly putting his hands around the neck of another man during an argument at a Bethel Township home. Donley also allegedly applied pressure, making it hard for the man to breathe.
The victim was able to get away from Donley and went to a nearby party store where he found some Michigan State Police troopers and explained what happened. The troopers went to the home and executed a search warrant for Donley.
Court officials say Donley refused to cooperate with the troopers, who had to use a taser on him. Donley took out one of the barbs and would not do as the troopers instructed. He finally listened to the troopers and was arrested.
Bond is set at $15,000. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for June 24 and a preliminary examination for June 29.
