(THREE RIVERS) – Pride flags will be allowed in classrooms in the Three Rivers School District.
According to WWMT the Three Rivers Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to allow pride flags in classrooms. The discussion on the matter started two weeks ago when Three Rivers Middle School teacher Russell Ball resigned his position after School District officials told teachers and staff to take down the flags.
Several people spoke during the public comment section of the meeting. A majority of those who did speak were in favor of letting the flags be displayed.
After hearing from the community the Board of Education met in closed session for over two hours. When they returned to open session, the Board voted to allow the flags back up in classrooms. They also voted to create a classroom display policy for the District.
Three Rivers Interim Superintendent Nikki Nash says the school district will create this display policy with the help of the community. She says details on how the community can provide feedback to the District will be released in 2022.
