(DOWAGIAC) – Authorities say a man was shot while trying to stop from being robbed.
The Dowagiac Police Department was called out just after 12 AM Tuesday to the 300 block of Main Street. Officers found the victim, a 37 year old Dowagiac man, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The man told police that he was meeting up with an acquaintance, when the suspect attempted to rob him. The man fought with the assailant, and was shot. The suspect them drove away.
The victim was initially treated at the scene, and then transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for further care. He is in stable condition.
Police have a person of interest in the shooting and are searching for this individual.
