(STURGIS) – Sturgis City Commissioners were informed last week that two major street projects and several others planned for 2022 will be moved back a
year.
Sturgis City Engineer Barry Cox shared that no bids came in for the West Congress Street Phase II Improvement Project. He says that project will be re-bid before the end of July with the hopes of doing the work in the Spring of 2023.
In addition, Cox says only one bid for the Franks Avenue and East Lafayette Street Project was received. That bid was $923,164, well above the estimate of just over $571,000 from Fleis & VandenBrink.
City Commissioner Brandon Kinsey asked why Cox thought the City was not receiving bids on the projects, and Cox answers. LINKC.
Sturgis City Manager Mike Hughes says Fleis & VandenBrink has suggested cities should bid by July for projects in 2023. He says there is a shortage of contractors to do these projects, which could be an issued moving forward.
