(LANSING) – The saying “It only takes one ticket to win” came true recently for a Battle Creek man.
The Michigan Lottery says the 45 year old won $3.39 million playing the Lotto 47 game. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at the Meijer Gas Station at 1174 South Centreville Road in Sturgis.
He matched the numbers that were drawn on April 20 of 4, 6, 11, 17, 23 and 31. The winner says he didn't realize he had won for a couple of weeks, until his wife scanned them on the app. He said she told him he had won but thought his wife was kidding. The man said when she started to cry, he knew it wasn't a joke.
The winner visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently to claim his prize. He chose to receive his prize as one lump-sum payment of about $2.3 million, rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
The man says for now, he is going to put the money into the bank and let it all sink in.
