(CENTREVILLE) - A recall effort against White Pigeon Village President Jesse Royce can move forward.
St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald says the County’s Election Commission met Thursday to consider paperwork filed with her office by Jerome Kash. He alleges that Royce compromised ethics by using village equipment and employees to do personal work.
The Election Commission, made up of Oswald, St. Joseph County Treasurer Kathy Humphreys and St. Joseph County Probate Court Judge David Tomlinson, took comments and arguments on the clarity and factual nature of the petition language.
Oswald says the Commission is charged with determining whether each reason stated in the petition is based on conduct occurring during the official’s current term of office, and whether each reason in “factual and of sufficient clarity to enable the officer whose recall is sought and the electors to identify the course of conduct that is the basis for the recall”.
In their ruling, the Election Commission determines unanimously that the reasons for recall stated in the petition are factual in nature and are of sufficient clarity.
Kash is now allowed to try and collect a minimum of 108 valid signatures to get a recall vote against Royce on a future ballot.
