(TAMPA BAY) – The National Hockey League held their annual awards celebration Tuesday and Tampa Bay, and the star of the show was Auston Matthews of Toronto. The 24 year old center left with three awards. He won the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player; the Ted Lindsey Award as the Most Outstanding Player as voted on by the Players Association; and he won the Rocket Richard Trophy for scoring the most goals in the regular season (60). Detroit Red Wings start Moritz Seider won the Calder Trophy as the Rookie Of the Year. While Igor Shesterkin of the NY Rangers won the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender. The Norris Trophy for the league’s top defenseman went to Cale Makar of Colorado, while the Selke Trophy for the best defensive forward was given to Patrice Bergeron of Boston. Kyle Conner of Winnipeg was the winner of the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly play; and Carey Price of Montreal won the Masterton Trophy, which goes to the player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The goaltending duo of Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta of Caroline won the William M. Jennings Trophy for goalie who played a minimum of 25 games and whose team allowed the fewest goals. This year’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy was given to P.K. Subban of New Jersey. This is given to the player who best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice and for making noteworthy humanitarians contributions to his community. Darryl Sutter of Calgary won the Jack Adams Award for coach of the year, and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award goes to Anze Kopitar of the LA Kings. The award is given to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team both on and off the ice.
