(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Department of Public Safety is asking for funding for an additional patrol officer in the 2023 Fiscal Year budget.
During a recent Sturgis City Commission work session, Director of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak asked for some extra funding in his department’s budget to hire an another officer. He shares with the Commission his department’s current staffing model. LINKC.
Banaszak says they are asking for the additional officer to bolster their numbers on the day shift. He says they have seen an increase in the number of calls that come in during day shift, and that looks to continue. In addition, there is more traffic during that shift, and more accidents, which means more work for the officers on duty.
The City Commission will hold a public hearing on the 2023 Fiscal Year budget during their meeting Wednesday, which starts at 6 PM in the Weisloch Room of Sturgis City Hall.
