ANGOLA, IN – A Coldwater man has entered into a plea agreement after being arrested for murder in Northeast Indiana.
Steuben County Court officials say during a pre-trial conference Monday, it was announced that 31 year old Steve Restemayer has entered into a plea agreement that would charge him with manslaughter instead of murder. No details of the plea were made available, but Steuben County Prosecutor Jeremy Musser says sentencing will be left up to the discretion of the court.
Restemayer was arrested for allegedly killing 36 year old Daniel J. Sheets of Fremont in early July 2021. The incident happened in the 5700 block of North County Road 673 East in Fremont Township, in a garage next to a house. The house caught fire on July 24, and once the fire was extinguished, investigators searched the property and found Sheets body in the garage.
Authorities say Sheets was killed by a single gunshot to the head.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 PM on May 17.
