(LANSING) – Unemployment rates saw an increase in the month of January around Southern Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget has released the January figures, and St. Joseph County saw the largest increase over the month in the area, going from 4.1% in December to 5.9% in January.
Cass County saw their unemployment rate jump from 4.3% to 5.7%. Branch County went from 4% to 4.9% and Hillsdale County increased from 4.4% to 5%.
Statewide, the unemployment rate went from 3.8% in December to 4.8 % in January.
Wayne Rourke, the Labor Market Information Director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics says the State experienced typical increases in unemployment rates in January.
