(DOWAGIAC) – The Dowagiac Police Department is continuing to look for a missing airplane and its pilot.
Dowagiac Police Chief Steven Grinnewald says at 8:13 PM Sunday, his department was sent to the Dowagiac Municipal Airport to investigate the disappearance of a pilot, 82 year old Richard Martin, and Martin’s plane, a Sonex with the tail number N569SX.
Dowagiac Municipal Airport Manager Oscar Azevedo told officers that Martin regularly files his plane for one to two hours on Sunday mornings. On September 10, Martin reportedly took off from the Dowagiac Airport at 11 AM. A family member waited for Martin to return, but he never did.
Grinnewald says his department, along with the Michigan State Police, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Civil Air Patrol and South Bend Air Traffic Control, are still attempting to find leads that may reveal the location of Martin and his plane.
If anyone has information on this matter, they are asked to call the Dowagiac Police Department at 269-782-9743, or the Cass County Tip Line at 1-800-462-9328.
