(STURGIS) - A narcotics investigation that started several months ago ended recently.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says in April, deputies stopped a motorcycle on U.S. 12 near Shimmel Road around 2 AM. During the stop, deputies were able to obtain probable cause for the first and third search warrants for the driver’s home in the 600 block of Park Street in Sturgis.
Deputies and officers with the Sturgis Police Department executed the first search warrant and located over 400 grams of crystal meth, cocaine, LSD and other drugs. Officers also located a large number of firearms, some of which were discovered to be stolen.
On September 6, the St. Joseph County Special Response Team was activated to conduct a search warrant at the suspect’s home. During the search, SRT Officers located the suspect inside the home and he was taken into custody.
The third search warrant was then executed by the Sheriff’s Office, where over 680 grams of crystal meth along with cocaine and several firearms were found. The suspect was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
Bingaman says holding those accountable for the illicit sales of meth and Fentanyl continues to be the focus of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, and this is just another example of those efforts.
