(UNDATED) – Some more work is planned for the U.S. 131 project in St. Joseph and Kalamazoo Counties over the next few weeks.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, crews have completed the following jobs: all hot mix asphalt paving; median guardrail installation; placement of shoulder gravel and lone line pavement markings.
Workers plan to do the following tasks in the next three weeks: continue the permanent sign placement in both north and south lanes along with removing the existing signs; pour foundations for wood posts; install drainage marker posts; add the special pavement markings and lay dormant seeding.
The project is rebuilding and repaving more than 13 miles of U.S. 131 from the Rocky River in St. Joseph County to Shaver Road in Kalamazoo County. The cost is $35.3 million.
MDOT says the work should be halted for the winter by December 19, and will begin again in the Spring of 2024. The project started in March and will be completely finished in November 2024.
