(ELKHART COUNTY) – A Middlebury man died in a one vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road.
The Indiana State Police say the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 6 AM Sunday of a vehicle that crashed into a wooded area near the County Road 10 overpass for the Toll Road. Deputies arrived and found a pick up in the trees that appeared to come from the Toll Road.
Indiana State Police were called in to help with the investigation. They determined the truck was heading west when it ran off the north side of the Toll Road, crashing through a guardrail near the 87 Mile Marker, and then rolled over before coming to a rest.
The driver, an 18 year old Middlebury man, was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
According to authorities, excessive speed and alcohol likely were factors in the crash, which is still under investigation. They also believe the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
