(WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP) – Authorities have released the names of the two drivers involved in a fatal crash.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says the driver that was killed in the crash was 26 year old Clayton Whitcomb of Sturgis. The other driver is 28 year old Dylan Schlabach of LaGrange.
Deputies were called out just after 2 AM Saturday to Fawn River Road near Mill Pond Road in White Pigeon Township. When they arrived, deputies found a Whitcomb pinned in his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows that Whitcomb was driving east on Fawn River Road and crossed the centerline into the path of Schlabach’s westbound vehicle and the autos collided head on.
Schlabach was transported to Parkview LaGrange Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Neither driver were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.
