(UNDATED) – A suspect is in custody following a police pursuit regarding a stolen vehicle.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says his department was contacted Tuesday about a vehicle stolen from the 64,000 block of Burgener Road in Florence Township. Deputies observed the vehicle leaving the scene and started following it.
Other deputies along with officers with the White Pigeon Police Department successfully put down stop sticks several times, as the pursuit went through Florence, Sherman and Nottawa Townships.
The chase finally ended when the stolen vehicle crashed into a utility pole. The suspect got out of the car and ran away, but was caught after a brief chase.
The suspect, a 39 year old LaGrange man, is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of stealing a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding and felonious assault. The Constantine Police Department also assisted in the pursuit.
