(BRONSON) – The Bronson Police Department is looking to start a new community based program to help fight crime.
In a posting on the Department’s Facebook page, Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson says the program, called the Community Video Registration Program, will compile a list of residences and businesses with exterior security camera systems, whether it’s multiple cameras or a single doorbell camera.
Johnson says the list would assist the Department in utilizing more local resources to fight crime and catch criminal behavior.
Johnson says when a situation occurs in a specific area, the Department could notify program registered residents in that area to see if they would be willing to check their camera systems for video footage of possible criminal activity. Registrants also can provide video footage in a preventative measure as well.
Johnson says video footage is so important to solving crimes and assisting in prosecuting the offenders. Video or pictures give so much detail which is so important in proving criminal cases.
This program would be totally voluntary and kept confidential. The program is totally free.
If you or your business would like to know more about this program, please contact Chief Johnson or Deputy Chief Frank Barker at 517-369-9083.
