(COLDWATER) – A charge has been filed against a man for trying to smuggle drugs into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater.
According to Branch County District Court documents, 38 year old Derrick Herring Junior of Detroit was arraigned on conspiracy to furnish contraband to prisoners. In May 2023, video surveillance cameras at the prison showed Herring throwing a package over the perimeter fence at the prison.
Authorities found the package, which had over 300 packets of Suboxone along with contraband cell phones.
Herring plead not guilty to the charge and bond was set at $10,000. He is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on September 26. A preliminary examination is set for October 3.
