(COLDWATER) – St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman will be continuing his career in law enforcement, but in a different county.
County officials say that on Tuesday, Branch County Sheriff Elect Fred Blankenship presented to the Branch County Commissioners two members of his administrative staff. Blankenship introduced Bingaman as his Branch County Undersheriff, and Todd Riley as the new Branch County Jail Administrator.
Blankenship shared with the Commissioners that he felt the amount these two positions get compensated should be reviewed because presently, road sergeants make more than the Branch County Undersheriff, while corrections officers make the same amount as the Jail Administrator.
The Commissioners voted in favor of a proposal to have the Jail Administrator along with the Undersheriff start at a three year salary level effective immediately. That means Bingaman’s salary will begin at $72,040 and Riley’s at $63,808.
Following the arrest of Sheriff Mark Lillywhite for drunk driving, Bingaman ran the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office for over a year. He lost to Chad Spence in the August Primary to run for Sheriff.
Bingaman will resign from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office at the end of November and will start his new duties in Branch County in December.
