(SHERMAN TOWNSHIP) – A Vicksburg man has been arrested in connection with the death of a child that was struck by a vehicle.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says on Monday deputies with the road patrol responded to the area of Balk and Banker Street Roads for a report of a motor vehicle that struck multiple school aged children.
When they arrived, deputies discovered a 29 year old Vicksburg man was traveling west on Banker Street Road and failed to see the children, striking one of them.
Lifesaving measures were attempted but the 10 year old child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was arrested and lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on felony charges related to the accident. Further information is expected to be released later today.
Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Tri-Township Fire And Rescue, Life Care Ambulance, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and several citizens.
The matter is still being investigated. If anyone has information on this accident, they are asked to call Sergeant Paulino Hernandez at 269-467-9045, extension 317.
