(CENTREVILLE) – Charges have been filed against a Vicksburg man in the death of a child.
St. Joseph County District Court online records show that 29 year old Logan Thomas of Vicksburg has been charged with felony count of operating a motor vehicle while license denied or revoked causing death; a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle without insurance and a charge as a fourth habitual offender.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says road patrol officers were called to the area of Balk Road and Banker Street Road just after 8 AM Monday on a report of a vehicle striking several children.
When they arrived, deputies determined that Thomas had been traveling west on Banker Street Road on his way to work and failed to see the Amish children who were riding their bikes to school, and were in the same lane has Thomas, who struck them.
First responders performed life saving measures on a 10 year old child, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thomas’ bond is set at $100,000. He is scheduled to have a pre-examination conference on December 17 and a preliminary examination on December 23.
