(BUTLER TOWNSHIP) – A fire did damage to a Butler Township barn.
The Quincy and Coldwater Fire Departments were sent to 790 Jonesville Road at 11:47 AM Friday for a building fire. Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke coming from a large barn. The Tekonsha and Lakeland Fire Departments brought tankers to the scene to provide water.
Quincy Fire Chief Michael Sherman says crews made entry into the barn and found fire in the walls and attic space. He says interior and exterior steel siding covering an old wood frame barn made for extensive work to control and extinguish the fire.
A large addition and its contents were able to be saved from the fire, but the building did suffer smoke and water damage. A nearby home was not damaged by the flames or heat.
Sherman says it’s believed the fire started from a wood stove pipe going through a wall. No injuries were reported in the incident and damage estimates have not been released.
