(LANSING) – A State agency has suspended the license of a Bronson child care facility following the owner’s arrest.
The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), Child Care Licensing Bureau (CCLB), announced they have suspended and issued a notice of intent to revoke the group child care license of Ember Finley. The child care facility is located at 201 Compton Street in Bronson.
The complaint investigation that concluded on February 5 found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules, including but not limited to; Failure to act in a manner that is conducive to the welfare of children; and Failure to ensure the home is conducive to the welfare of children.
Finley’s license was suspended as of February 6 at 6 PM. That suspension and the notice of intent to revoke prohibits Finley from operating a group child care at the Compton Street location or at any other address and location. Finley may not accept children for care, and the order also requires her to inform all parents of children in her care that the license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.
MiLEAP says it was critical to take emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the children at this group child care home.
On January 30, the Southwest Enforcement Team along with the Michigan State Police located illegal drugs, including cocaine, and a stolen gun, when they executed a search warrant at the Compton Street location.
Online court records say Finley was arraigned Friday on charges of dealing or manufacturing a controlled substance; maintaining a drug house; tampering with evidence; felony firearms and fourth degree child abuse.
Finley plead not guilty to the charges and was able to post a $10,000 bond.
She is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on Thursday and a preliminary examination on February 19.
