(STURGIS) - A water main break has led the City of Sturgis to issue a boil water advisory for a portion of the city.

Sturgis City Manager Andrew Kuk says the advisory is for residents of West West Street from North Street to North Clay Street, and for North Clay Street from West West Street to John Street.

This precautionary action is being taken due to a loss of pressure in the water distribution system caused by the break.

Kuk says all residents impacted by the boil water advisory should have received a hard copy at their home.

Impacted residents are advised not to drink water without boiling it first. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

Kuk says the boil water advisory shall remain in effect until results from the sampling verify the water is safe to drink. Customers will be advised when the advisory has been lifted.

If residents have questions, they can contact the City of Sturgis Department of Public Services by calling 269-651-2879.
