Lt. Mike Young Retires After 35 Years With ISP

(UNDATED) - A over 35 year career with the Indiana State Police has come to an end for Lt. Mike Young.

Young, a Pleasant Lake native and Prairie Heights High School graduate, joined the Indiana State Police after earning a bachelor's degree in sociology and criminal justice from Manchester College. He graduated from the ISP 48th Recruit Academy in December 1990 and was immediately assigned to the Toll Road Post, where he patrolled Zone 1, covering Lake and Porter counties.

During his career, Young rose through the ranks, earning promotions to corporal in 2004, sergeant in 2007, and lieutenant in 2013. As a lieutenant, he served as the Toll Road Post District Commander until his retirement.

Young also served in several specialized roles, including field training officer, standardized field sobriety test instructor, member of the ISP Interdiction Team, and a SWAT team member from 1997 to 2008.
