(STURGIS) - The Sturgis City Commission received a review of the 2026 first quarter financials during Wednesday's meeting.
Finance Director Sadie Griffin shared that December marked the completion of the first quarter of the City's fiscal year. She started with the cash receipts and disbursements for the quarter.
Griffin says during the first quarter of 2026 deposits in the banking system totaled $12,122,632, of which $1,029.865 was from taxes collected and the rest from utility payments and other revenues. Total disbursements for the fourth quarter were $15,493,811, including $2,517,232 for payroll. (LISTEN ABOVE).
Griffin says that for the General Fund, a majority of the revenue items are on track with the budget or slightly below, with expenditures exceeding revenue by $409,813. Revenue consists of several different pieces, including taxes, which was $869,385 collected during the quarter, compared to $824,345 last year.
Griffin then shared about many of the City's funds including the newest one, the ambulance fund. Griffin says billed claims were lower for the first quarter 2026 compared to first quarter 2025l 316 versus 353. She says year to date total revenue and expenditures are tracking with the budget.
Griffin told the Commission that the average payment percentage of total charges has decreased as calendar year 2025 progressed, dropping to 37% versus 57% in January.
Griffin also shared that the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts, the Doyle Community Center, the Electric Fund and the Sewer Fund all had revenue increases.
