(BRONSON) - The City of Bronson is applying for the Match On Main grant program.

Monday night, the Bronson City Council was presented with the applications for the proposed businesses. The program is administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which provides funding to support small business improvements that enhance operations and contribute to local economic development.

Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman says the City issued a press release and public notices seeking applicants and received three submissions. A selection committee evaluated and scored the applications using the MEDC's Local Business Scoring Sheet and Community Checklist. Based on those results, two applicants were selected to move forward.

Under program guidelines, the City may apply on behalf of two businesses, with a maximum grant award of $25,000 per business and a required 10% match from each applicant.

Mersman says the selected applicants are Smitty's Pizza, which plans to purchase new kitchen equipment, and Shaunda's Hair Chair, which plans to activate underutilized space and purchase equipment and inventory. (LISTEN ABOVE).

The City Council unanimously approved the applications.

Bronson previously participated in this program, securing funding for Economy Garage to purchase a new lift and complete building renovations for a new customer entry.
