(JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP) - Michigan State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Cass County.
The incident happened May 6 at approximately 12:08 PM in the 29,000 block of Davis Lake Street in Jefferson Township.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Cass County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence following reports of a felonious assault involving a male suspect. Before deputies arrived, the suspect fled the scene.
Troopers from the Niles Post along with K-9 units and Emergency Support Team personnel responded to help find the suspect. After a brief search, officers found the suspect and shots were fired.
The suspect, a 45 year old Edwardsburg man, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured.
According to department policy, all involved Michigan State Police personnel have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
When the investigation is completed, the case will be submitted to the Michigan Attorney General's Office for review.
