(DOWAGIAC) - A suspect is in custody following a stabbing incident over the weekend.
The Dowagiac Police Department was contacted at 5:10 PM Sunday by a 23 year old Dowagiac man who said he had been stabbed. Officers found a stab wound to the man's chest and provided aid.
The victim told officers that he had been at a residence on Spruce Street and had gotten into an argument with a family member. The argument turned physical and during the altercation the victim was stabbed. The man then left the residence and came to the Police Department.
Officers went to the residence and made contact with the suspect. After speaking to the 58 year old man, officers arrested him on a charge of assault with intent to murder. He is being held in the Cass County Jail.
The victim was taken to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The matter is still under investigation.
