(FREMONT) - Fremont's Plan Commission meeting drew a crowd Tuesday night, but the casino-related discussion many people expected never got off the ground.
Fremont Town Attorney Kurt Bachman told the Plan Commission members that Fremont needs time to review and write rules before taking up casino zoning, data centers or battery storage facilities. Bachman recommended placing an immediate moratorium on further discussion on any of these matters until the proper ordinances can be put in place.
For the public, that means no formal zoning action on those issues for now: no rezones, no permits and no public hearing until Fremont is ready to take them up under updated rules. The Plan Commission voted unanimously to recommend the moratorium to the Fremont Town Council.
Plan Commission members clarified and stressed that the vote to recommend a moratorium is NOT a YES OR NO Vote on the Larger Casino issue that will be decided by voters in November.
