(COLDWATER) – Three people have been arrested in connection with drug smuggling at the Lakeland Correctional Facility.
The Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Corrections at the Coldwater facility started a joint investigation into smuggling drugs into the prison through the mail in May 2023. At that time, the prison received a book addressed to a prisoner, but when the book was inspected it was found that drugs were concealed inside.
The investigation lead officials to a parolee in the Detroit area along with his adult sister, and the prisoner who was supposed to receive the drugs. Officers arrested the original prisoner, 38 year old Brandon Head, along with the parolee, 38 year old Antwuan Jefferson. Both men have been arraigned and their cases are in the Branch County Court system.
With the assistance of the Michigan State Police 2nd District Fugitive Team, the 37 year old Detroit female has been arrested. She was lodged into the Branch County Jail and her name is being withheld pending her arraignment.
Assisting with the investigation were the MDOC Intelligence Unit, the
United States Postal Inspector’s Office, the Michigan State Police Multi-Jurisdictional Narcotics Unit, the Michigan State Police 2nd District Computer Crimes Unit and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.
