(NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP) – No injuries were reported in a massive straw fire
Thursday.
The Centreville Fire Department was dispatched at 7:05 PM Thursday to a large straw fire along Schweitzer Road in Nottawa Township. There were approximately 220 large square bales of straw that caught fire along the side of the road.
The Mendon, Three Rivers and Colon Fire Departments helped battle the blaze.
With each bale weighing around 900 pounds, it took approximately 180,000 gallons of water to put out the fire.
Also assisting at the scene was the St. Joseph County Road Commission.
