(COLDWATER) – A Tekonsha woman has been arrested in connection with a complaint of child abuse.
Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joseph Scheid says Coldwater Police were dispatched to Balfour Drive at 2:30 PM Wednesday for a reported child abuse complaint. When they arrived, officers learned that the four month old child’s parents had been arguing and that the mother, 31 year old Cynthia Foster had been drinking.
The father told officers that during the argument, Foster picked up the child and slammed him down on her lap twice. Officers observed red marks on the boy’s torso consistent with someone grabbing the child under the armpits.
Foster was arrested on a charge of third degree child abuse along with an outstanding child support warrant and was lodged in the Branch County Jail. She was arraigned on Friday in Branch County District Court.
The child was taken to Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater for a medical evaluation.
