(STURGIS) – Sturgis High School will be getting a new roof.
During Monday’s meeting the Sturgis Board of Education was presented with a bid recommendation to have a new roof put on the high school building. Director of Finance Ray Sterling says the School’s Facilities Committee originally received five bids for the project, but three were eliminated because they were not what the School District was asking for.
The two remaining were from Division 7 Building Contractors and Leisters Exteriors. Both offered rubber membrane roofs and were interviewed.
Division 7 was awarded the High School Cafeteria roof bid a few years ago, and Sterling shares some other reasons the company was thought to be the right one to do the rest of the roof. LINKC.
Sterling says Division 7 told Sturgis Schools that if selected, and there were issues before they could start, they would come down and make temporary
repairs.
The Facilities Committee recommended that Division 7 receive the bid at a total cost of just over $205,000. That includes a 10 percent contingency for the project. The Board unanimously approved the recommendation.
That bid is below what the School Board approved for the project which was just under $217,000.
