(LAGRANGE) – An event this weekend will show a centuries old process to the community.
On Sunday, the 30th annual Maple Syrup Days Celebration will continue at the Maple Wood Nature Center, located at 4500 East and 100 South in LaGrange.
For over a month, LaGrange County Parks Department personnel have been collecting sap from trees on the park property and then boiling sap down to make the maple syrup.
The day begins with a pancake and sausage breakfast, prepared by the South Milford Lions Club. The meal will be served in the Maple Wood Nature Center from 7 AM until 1:30 PM. The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 to 10.
The DeKalb Horseman’s Association will be once again providing wagon rides through the sugar bush from 8 AM to 2 PM both days so visitors can see the different ways sap can be collected.
There will also be tours in the Sugar Shack from 8 AM to 2 PM so people can see how the sap is cooked down to make the syrup.
The Roz Puppets will be returning this year to the Puppet Tent, offering six shows each day from 8 AM until 2 PM.
Maple syrup will be for sale along with maple cotton candy, coloring and activity books in addition to a variety of maple inspired books and other gifts.
Visitors are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, since many of the activities will be outside.
