(LAGRANGE) – There’s going to be a change coming to the speed limit on U.S. 20 as it goes through LaGrange.
The Indiana Department of Transportation proposed the changes which were voted on and approved by the LaGrange Town Council during their meeting this week.
Currently the speed limit is 40 MPH from Railroad Street to Canal Street. That will change to 30 MPH. In addition, the speed limit east of Canal Street to County Road 100 East will change from 40 MPH to 45 MPH.
INDOT officials say the changes will allow for better traffic flow and will also conform with the Department’s minimum standards.
No word had been given on when the new speed limits will go into effect.
INDOT will start in April resurfacing U.S. 20 from Shipshewana to LaGrange. It’s anticipated to take over a year to complete the project, which will also include adding turn lanes and a stoplight at County Road 600 W west.
