(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Board of Education was presented with four ballot proposals during their meeting Monday.
The proposals came as a result of the three community engagement sessions that were held to get community input and guidance on what they wanted to see Sturgis Public Schools do in the future.
Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert shares with the Board of Education what the first ballot option would be. LINKC.
Part A of the proposal would be asking for such items as making all buildings ADA compliant, having secure vestibules at all buildings, expanding and renovating the fabrication lab, fixing flat roofs on the buildings, renovating classrooms, redesigning media centers, bathroom renovations, replacing boilers as needed, a new track and field area, lockers for the soccer teams and grandstands, and turf for the football, baseball and softball fields.
Part B would be asking to do renovations to the Sturgis Community Pool.
Ballot Option 2 would include both Part A and Part B as one item.
Ballot Option 3 would be in two parts. It would be Part A from the First Ballot Option, and then Part B would be for a new aquatic center.
Ballot Option 4 would have the two items from Ballot Option 3 as one item.
All of the ballot options offer a no mill increase and will extend the current millage to be paid off in 2058.
After a long discussion, the Board voted to have their Finance Committee to look over the total cost of the proposals and come back with more information for the Board during one of their November meetings.
