(VAN WERT) – The City of Van Wert will be the site of a new $2 billion data center for an undisclosed tech company.
The Van Wert Area Economic Development Corporation made the announcement on Wednesday. In the release, Corporation Executive Director, Brent Stevens, referred to the property as a “megasite.” The total amount of land is 1,475 acres. The plan calls for the developer to first build on 220 acres and then potentially expand in the future.
The land for the project is bound by U.S. 30 to the south, Marsh Rd. to the west, and Gilliland Rd. to the east.
Stevens says Van Wert has been looking for an occupant for the land since 2009. Talks with the current company started back in January 2024.
The release says the data center is estimated to create 250 jobs directly. Though that’s not a very high number of new jobs, Stevens does say it’s ideal for Van Wert. He says that the number of new jobs won’t be a burden to the area’s current infrastructure. It’s estimated that for every job created at the data center, nine other jobs will be created by the development, whether it be building maintenance, security, or other areas.
The undisclosed company isn’t expected to close on the property until the end of July.
Stevens says no taxpayer dollars will be used to fund this project.
