(LAGRANGE) – An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal crash that happened over the weekend in LaGrange County.
The Indiana State Police say that 26 year old Juan Diaz Perez of Elkhart is facing multiple charges following the crash that happened on Saturday on LaGrange County Road 1000 West and State Road 120 just before 1:30 PM.
Troopers were called to the scene and determined that Perez was driving an SUV north on County Road 1000 West and hit a southbound pickup head on. The driver of the truck, 73 year old James Eash of Shipshewana, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Diaz was taken from the scene to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. After being released, he was arrested on a felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death; and misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment; and operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a license.
This crash is still under investigation.
The Indiana State Police were assisted by the LaGrange Count Sheriff’s Office, the Shipshewana Police and Fire Departments and Parkview EMS.
