(STURGIS) – The City of Sturgis will be getting a new weather siren.

Strudwick says Sturgis has two other weather sirens, one in Oak Lawn Park and one near Wall School, and that they are loud enough to be heard in downtown Sturgis. He shared that the cost of a new siren at the Fire Station location would be $29,200.

During Commission discussion, Jeff Mullins shared that he has some reservations on purchasing a weather siren at this time. LINKD.

The Commission voted 5-4 to approve the purchase of the weather siren. Voting in favor of the motion were Rodger Moyer, Marvin Smith, Cathi Abbs, Vice Mayor Rick Bir and Mayor Frank Perez. Voting No were Mullins, Aaron Miller, Linda Harrington and Dan Boring.

Strudwick says he will contact with West Shore to get the process started to get the siren ordered and installed on a pole near the Fire Station.
