Sheriff’s Office Investigating Break In And Sexual Assaults
Tuesday, March 26, 2024

(FAWN RIVER TOWNSHIP) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion and sexual assault.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says on March 20, deputies with the Road Patrol and Detectives responded to the area of the Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park east of Sturgis for a report of a home invasion.

During the investigation, it was discovered an unknown man had broken into a home between the hours of 12 AM and 5 AM, and sexually assaulted two females that lived in the house.

The Sheriff’s Office has been investigating leads but has not had any success locating the suspect.

Bingaman is asking anyone who lives in the area of U.S. 12 and County Farm Road to the City of Sturgis to please check their at home camera systems for anyone who may have been walking or any vehicles between 12 AM and 5 AM on March 20. It’s believed the suspect may have driven to the home in a dark colored passenger car.

If you have any information on this matter, please contact Sergeant Paulino Hernandez by calling 269-467-9045, extension 317.

Bingaman reminds the public that they should be vigilant of their surroundings, lock their doors and report suspicious persons.
