(MENDON) – A long time Mendon business will be doing mass layoffs later in the year.
According to WWMT, IAC Mendon, LLC, an auto parts manufacturer, will be permanently laying off 178 employees on or around December 8. That’s according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification that was sent to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The WARN notice is required by Federal law to be submitted when a company is planning to have mass layoffs or closures.
At one time the IAC plant had over 600 employees. The Mendon facility is considered a Tier-1 automotive interiors supplier. That means they provide vehicle components directly to automakers for full assembly.
It’s possible that some of the IAC employees could have bumping rights through UAW Local 503, which represents several workers at the plant.
In June 2016, IAC laid off 64 employees, then another 83 were laid off in December. At one time the Mendon plant was set to close in May 2020, but that was avoided.
