(GILEAD TOWNSHIP) – A Monday morning fire did damage to a Gilead Township home.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says his department was called out around 7:30 AM for a fire at 293 West Southern Road near Steffey Road. Firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from the roof a single story home. Family members were spraying water onto the fire with a garden hose when first responders arrived.
The fire was in the attic, and Wilber says crews pulled down drywall to get inside and put out the blaze.
Wilber says there were also oxygen tanks in the house, but they were not affected by the fire.
It appears the fire was electrical in nature. Damage estimates are reported at $75,000. The Lakeland and Orland, Indiana Fire Departments provided tanker trucks to the scene.
Wilber says a non-ambulatory resident was removed from the house by family members prior to firefighters arriving.
